Bibliographic Utilities: Library Applications of BU Databases
Major library applications
Acquire records from the databases for copy-cataloging.
Providing local records (whether or not locally cataloged) for addition to the database (Primarily to OCLC & RLIN).
Use the database for identifying libraries that may have items that are needed for inter-library loan (ILL).
Having this opportunity requires that the member libraries of the Bibliographic Utility be willing to be a source for ILLs.
Use Authority Files to affirm, rectify, and standardize local records.
Obtain record information for acquisition purposes.
This is particularly useful for out-of-print items.
