PRISM - Derived Search - Name Key

Rule:

Format/Pattern of letters to be taken from last, first, & middle names:

4,3,1

Examples:

Command Form

• Using dp (derived personal name).

  fin dp 4,3,1

  Example:

General Notes

• Both commas are included even when there are fewer than 3 parts to the name.
  • This is because the commas identify the search as a Personal Name Key Search to PRISM.
• Exclude:
  • Punctuation
  • Diacritics
  • These symbols: - # / + = ±

Special Cases: Surnames

• Multiple surnames (last names) or surnames with articles or prepositions should be treated as one word, ignoring spaces and punctuation.

Special Cases: Surnames starting with Mac or Mc

• Last names (surnames) beginning with the prefix Mc or Mac and followed by a capital letter should have the Mc or Mac compressed to an m.

  Fleetwood Mac	m,fle,

• BUT, last names (surnames) beginning with the prefix Mc or Mac and followed by a small letter should NOT compress the Mc or Mac to an m.

Special Cases: Fornames

• Forenames (first names) are considered a single word, so ignore punctuation and spaces within a forename.
• Also exclude titles and other words related or attached to first names (forenames).
