PRISM
is OCLC's primary
bibliographic service for libraries.
It provides access to the OCLC
database bibliographic database, known as
WorldCat
or the Online
Union Catalog, a database
of over 45 million bibliographic records contributed by over
35,000 member libraries.
Services supported
by the PRISM service:
Obtaining catalog records for a
local LAS electronic catalog (a process usually known as copy
cataloging).
Checking on records for
inter-library loan (ILL).
Affirming the correct names of
authors, titles, and so forth in Authority Files
Acquisitions through
OCLC.
Record
format:
The records are in OCLC's
implementation of the Library of Congress's (LC) Machine-Readable
Cataloging (MARC)
format, otherwise known as OCLC-MARC.
