PRISM - Keyword Search

Format

• <find command> <keyword index> <keyword>

  Find Command	Keyword Index Label	Keyword
  fin	ti	Whatever words the searcher expects will bring up the desired record. <f11>
  Examples: fin	ti au su	moby melville whales

Important Keyword Search Notes:

• An Index Label must be specified for each AND every keyword that is used, even if they are in the same index.
  • Examples:
    • fin ti moby and ti dick
    • fin su whales and au melville
• The Boolean "and" allows the use of up to 8 indexes and keywords per search.
• PRISM Keyword searches DO NOT support the Booleans "or" and "not."
• Keywords may be NO LONGER than 18 characters long.
  • Use Wild Cards ( # or ? ) to truncate longer words. (See Wild Cards ... )
• The ONLY characters that can be used in Keyword Search statements are alphabetical and numeric ones plus:
  • Ampersand ( & )
  • Hyphen ( - ),
  • Wild Cards ( # and ? ).

Qualifiers

• Only 2 types of qualifiers ( Date and Format Type) can be used in a Keyword Search.
  • Date qualifiers restrict a search to specific dates of materials.
  • Format Type qualifiers restrict a search to specific types of materials.
• Only one qualifier of each type can be used in a search statement.
• Qualifiers can be used with an "and" or after a forward slash (/).
