Scope of Database

• The major RLG Union Catalog or bibliographic database (BIB) accessed by RLIN, Eureka, or Z39.50 interfaces.
• It consists of 8 files:

  Computer Files	MDF
  Maps	MAP
  Scores	SCO
  Serials	SER
  Sound Recordings	REC
  Visual Materials	VIM

• A brief description of the Union Catalog, its files, and other major bibliographic databases available to subscribing libraries through RLG is at: http://www.rlg.org/libres.html.
• About 53.3% of the records are materials in English, but there are items in about 365 other languages.
• About 49% of the items were published in the US, Canada, and the UK, but titles come from over 255 countries. Materials in various formats from numerous libraries, museums, and archives.
• Each individual record describes an item or collection
• Most records provide local holdings information.
