Scope
There are several 3 major
activities
(also called "
functions
") that are pursued in the RLIN bibliographic database:

Inter-Library Loan (

Authority Files (

)
Search (

) - This is somewhatof a "guided" search.

Inter-Library Loan (

This is the mode for:
Identifying the location of items for which you may want to arrange an inter-library loan.
Requesting such loans from remote libraries.
Authority (

)
This is the mode for:
Finding standard, "authoritative," names, subject headings, or other files to ensure the quality of local cataloging.
