RLG was formed in 1974 as a
not-for-profit consortium focusing on providing services and
support for the acquisition, delivery, and preservation of
information.
It now consists of about 170
member research libraries
These libraries are largely in
major academic and research institutions but also include major
museums, archives, corporations, and other organizations.
Many top overseas institutions
are members of RLG, including the British Library.
Over 10,000 additional libraries
and, even, individuals have accounts that enable them to access
RLG's databases and services.
Purposes
Facilitate the solution of the
research information needs of such organizations as well as
individual researchers.
