Phrase

  • To search complete indexed titles, subject headings, or other phrase starting from the beginning (omit initial articles)
  • Use whenever possible.
  • Put phrases containing and, or, not entirely within quotation marks.

tp (title phrase)

cp (corp/conf. name phrase)

sp (subject phrase)

Word

  • Use when one can not use a Phrase index.
  • To search SEPARATE WORDS from titles, corporate/conference names and subjects
  • NOTE: Do not use:
    • Words shorter than 3 characters.
    • and, or, not, or any common words

tw (title word)

cw (corp/conf. name word)

sw (subject word)

Personal Name

  • To search names of authors, editors, and others responsible for a work.

pn (personal name)

pe (exact personal name)
