Searching RLIN: 3 Major Types of Indexes

Usage
Indexes

Phrase

To search complete indexed titles, subject headings, or other phrase starting from the beginning (omit initial articles)

Use whenever possible.

Put phrases containing and, or, not entirely within quotation marks.

tp (title phrase)

cp (corp/conf. name phrase)

sp (subject phrase)

Word

Use when one can not use a Phrase index.

To search SEPARATE WORDS from titles, corporate/conference names and subjects

NOTE: Do not use:

Words shorter than 3 characters.

and, or, not, or any common words

tw (title word)

cw (corp/conf. name word)

sw (subject word)

Personal Name

To search names of authors, editors, and others responsible for a work.

pn (personal name)

pe (exact personal name)
