New
& Expanding Computer-Related Opportunities for
LTs
|
More-and-more LTs
are doing work once the private domains of librarians, including:
- Primary reference services
- This
depends upon the library
system but occurs more
often when a library tech can offer high-level skills to a
particular industry.
- Library automation systems
design, development, operation, maintenance, administration, and,
even, programming.
- Auxiliary library services that
may require substantial computer use such as adult literacy
programs and home-bound patron programs.
- Teaching database- and
Internet-searching classes.
Some of the New
Opportunities for LTs
- Database searching
- Internet Surfer (which is no more
than database searching)
- Graphic design and web page
design.
- Database design and maintenance.
