A record
consists of all of the types of information
("fields")
for a particular article or other document.
Records
may contain a few to numerous fields,
some of which may be additional "meta-information"
about a document which is added to the basic document content when
the article is stored in a database.
Examples of
meta-information include:
Subject headings
Number of pages in the original
document
The date the document was added
to the database.
An "abstract" of the original
document, indicating or summarizing the contents of the
document.
Common fields
include:
Title
Author
Publisher
Date (including separate fields
for each date component: month, day, year)
Abstract
All title words in every record,
including their word order in the title.
