Scope

• Ranking is the process of ordering the results of a search by some kind of alphabetical or numerical criteria.
• Example:
  • Putting records in alphabetical order by the authors' last names
    • Biafra, Jello
    • Browning, Elizabeth
    • Camus, Albert
    • Cervenka, Exene
    • Hemingway, Ernest
    • Rollins, Henry

Command

• "rank" is the command used to rank records that result from a search.

Usage

• rank <set number>/<records to be ranked>/ranking criteria
• Examples:
  • rank s5/1-5,12,14,19-23,38/au,ti
    • Ranks selected records alphabetically by their authors' last names, then titles
  • rank s3/all/ti
    • Ranks all records in the set alphabetically by their titles.
