Major features of
the Sirsi Unicorn client-server LAS as implemented at Foothill
College:
- IBM RS-6000 host / file server
running a version of the UNIX operating system.
- Macintosh
computers as intelligent terminals or clients in the library,
though any kind of computer that can run a web browser or telnet
fuctions as a client.
- Three Display Interfaces
- The Sirsi Unicorn LAS offers
three types of interfaces for accessing its
catalog.
- All three of the Sirsi
interfaces offer approximately the same search and retrieval
capabilities.

- InfoView
Proprietary Graphical
Interface
- This is a LAN connected
interface that is only available in the
library.
- It is relatively easy to
use, but you have to look carefully to utilize some of
the more sophisticated capabilities.
- This is also the primary
graphical interface for library technical processes and
circulation.

- We will focus on the
WebCat
browser-based interface
because it:
- Is easier to
use.
- Provides access from
home or anywhere else in the world with a Web
connection.
- Access to the Internet through
the "Information
Gateway"

[Web-based] - This must be done from the
campus.
- InfoTrac (Searchbank) - This
enables you to you to telnet
to a text-based
interface to 3 InfoTrac databases.
