Usage

• This is best as an exact search for an author's name in the standard format of:
  • last name, first name [and other commonly used parts of the name]
• You can also enter an author's name in any order as a keyword search if you have the correct author name that is in the catalog.
  • Booleans, nesting, and proximity operators can be used.
• Otherwise, you will be taken to an author index to browse for the correct name. For example:

  james joyce	Produces 25 results
  joyce, james	Produces 25 results
  hemingway, ernie	Takes you to the author index (hemingway)
  ernie hemingway	Takes you to the author index (ernie)

Viewing records resulting from a search

• Any viable name will take you to a list of catalog records containing the author (even if it is not one you expected because of an error in your entering names), usually an author in the MARC 100 field.
  • The author, though, may not be a primary author or could be the author of a previous edition.
• The number of records in the search results list matching each heading is shown in brackets to the right of the heading.
• To view previous or succeeding parts of the list, press the respective forward or backward button.
• To view an individual record or shorter list of records for a particular heading, simply click on the heading, then click on the view button for the item you wish to see.

Searching for multiple authors

• You can use Booleans to search for multiple authors or to exclude authors. For Example:

  smith and jones	Produces 3 results
  smith and jones not howard	Produces 2 results
  smith or jones	Produces 879 results
