Searching SIRSI Unicorn: Wild Cards & Truncation

Sirsi Unicorn supports 2 types of wild cards.

• $ - dollar sign stands for any number of chracters.
  • Example:

    wom$ will find: women, womyn, woman, wombat, wombats

• $ plus a number - limits the number of characters replaced by the $ to the maxium of the entered number.
  • Example:

    chem$3 will find: chemist, chemins, but not chemical, chemistry.

• ? - The question mark stands for only 1 (one) character.
  • Example:

    wom?n will find: women, womyn, woman

• You can use multiple ?s in a search, each ? standing for one letter in the term.
  • Example:

    chem??? will find chemist, chemins, but not chemical, chemistry.
