Searching MELVYL: CAT & PE Catalogs

Scope

• MELVYL hosts a large portion of the contents of the library catalogs of the nine UC campuses in a satellite- and ground-based network.
• Major MELVYL catalogs that the public can access without a UC library card and password are CAT and PE

Catalogs

• CAT
  • The monograph catalog (CAT) has nearly 10 million titles representing over 13 million holdings (individual items) at the UC campuses plus the California State Library and the California Academy of Sciences.
  • The database includes such items as:
    • Books,
    • Dissertations
    • Government documents
    • Audio and video
    • Computer software files
    • Maps
    • Music scores.
• PE
  • This is the MELVYL periodical catalog, also known as CALLS (the California Academic List of Serials).
  • PE contains over 793,000 periodical titles in the UC system plus the California State Library, California State Universities, Stanford, and University of Southern California.
  • PE is NOT a literature database. There are no journal contents that can be searched for articles.
