Britannica britannica.com	Small but high quality index. Also brings up records in the Britannica Encyclopedia and from magazines.
IPL (Internet Public Library) www.ipl.org	From the University of Michigan's School of Information. One of the original Internet indexes. Very high quality.
InfoMine infomine.ucr.edu	Academically oriented index Small. Very high quality.
Librarian's Index www.lii.org	Small, general, annotated index.. Not-for profit, created by volunteers, mostly information professionals (librarians and others). Has General Reference, Teen, and Youth collections. Very high quality.
LookSmart www.looksmart.com	Commercial index, licensed to several Search Engines. Variable quality.
Open Directory www.dmoz.org	Large (over 2 million Web pages) general index.. Not-for profit, created by volunteers. Variable quality. An interesting interactive, graphical interface to it is Webbrain.com. Unfortunately, it does not work with browsers on the Macintosh. A demo that works on the Mac is at thebrain.com.
WWW Virtual Library www.vlib.org	Large general index.. Not-for profit, created by volunteers, many of which are created by subject professionals. Variable quality but better than most.
WebBrain www.webbrain.com	Graphical interface to the Open directory. (See above.)
Yahoo www.yahoo.com	Large (over 1.7 million Web pages) general index.. Commercial index. Variable quality.
