Tell
me, and I may forget.
Show me, and I may remember.
Involve me, and I will understand.

Database Searching
Assignments - Presentation
This is college. I
expect college-quality presentation of your answers to the search
questions. This means, generally, typing your answers and presenting
the request "record"
- Typing &
Block Printing
- Everything
that is turned in must , as
required by the individual
assignment,
be:
- Typed
- This includes name, date, assignment. name, and
answers,
- or,
if absolutely necessary,
- Block
printed - This is allowed when you answer on one of the
online forms I provide for certain assingments.
The
block printing must be absolutely clean and readable. I will
take off 10% if the printing is difficult to read.
Clear
communication is an implicit part of information
services.
- Database

- Depends upon
the database being searched. See
the directions for each
assignment.
- General
Directions: Turn in
- A cover
page for each assignment with typed Name, Assignment
Name, and Date.
- For each
question, attach a database record (article with
bibliographic information and relevant page(s)) that answers
each search question. The specific answer to the search
question must
be highlighted in
a light (preferably yellow) color. DO NO provide
the entire atricle, just the pages that contain:
- 1. The
bibliographic information.
- 2. The
answer itself. Remember it must be highlighted.
- I will
take off if the bibliographic information is not included or
the answer is not highlighted.

if the assignment requires database records for every question.
The assignment has
to be postmarked the date it is due.
- Late
assignments lose one grade.
- The assignments will be corrected
and returned to you by the second class after the due
date.
Notes for the
Class
- My teaching notes are all online
at the class Web site
(http://www.blueroom.com/LT-65/LT65-INDEX.HTM).
- The most updated notes will be
ready and uploaded just prior to the class, so that I can
tune them up to the last minute.
- You can print these notes out
from anyplace that has a link to the Web and a printer. I suggest,
though, that you use these notes online (in a separate window or
windows) in conjunction with your work. Save paper; save
trees!
- Additional information may be
provided in class that will not be in the online notes. TAKE
NOTES, as I will be providing examples and interactive (you
and me) discussions of online searching problems that can not be
easily communicated on paper or HTML.
Listening /
Reading / Studying
- This class is intense. You need
to:
- Listen carefully to the
lectures and take careful notes because, particularly when I
demonstrate and discuss examples of searching.
- Read the online notes and
handouts carefully, as I can not cover every search tool and
technique in class, and you will need to use some that I do not
discuss, except maybe to point you to them.
